1994 JGCL gas gauge/fuel tank problems

I have a 94 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo, and the gas gauge hasnt worked for a few months now. It is getting quite annoying having to "estimate" the amount of miles i get with the amount of gas i put in the tank.

Also, the fuel tank will not allow me to put in more than a few gallons of gas at once. I get to a couple gallons at the gas station, then it turns off the pump handle as if the tank was full, but it is far from full. This is causing me to have to stop at the gas station every other day. IT, too, is quite annoying.

Has anyone come accross theis type of thing before or can anyone help with these issues as to what the problem is? I am trying to get it fixed as inexepnsive as possible as my first thought is the labor costs for fixing this problem will be a lot...

Sometimes if you just barely put the nozzle in a couple inches you will get a better fill up. I'm not sure what to say about the gas guage, I have problems with mine also... it will go down to E even though I still have a half a tank.
