2000 alero 2.4 trac off light on tranny shifts hard
so my tech is a retard and my friend got his hand on a better scanner and we hooked it up and got two codes P0758 and P1860 and thats means "repair wiring at transaxle wiring pass-thru connector" the light always comes on after I hit a pot hole so hopefully it's just loose

Re: 2000 alero 2.4 trac off light on tranny shifts hard
Sounds like you may be onto something.
That should be easy to check out. The connector is located at the front left of the tranny. Meaning driver's side. Should be the big gray colored connector. Undo it, inspect both plug and jack side, and then reseat it. Both of your DTCs are tranny electrical circuit malfunctions. P0758 is a 2-3 shift solenoid electrical problem and the P1860 is a torque convertor clutch (TCC) pulse width modulation solenoid electrical problem. The P0758 is probably the one causing your hard shifting because when the DTC sets it disables shift adapts, commands maximum line pressure, and inhibits TCC operation.

Which sensor at the air filter? There should be an IAT (air intake temperature) sensor. I don't recall whether it causes a traction control problem but if disconnected it will cause the transmission to act up. Hard and erratic shifts. GM has a TSB out on this issue.

Re: 2000 alero 2.4 trac off light on tranny shifts hard
I have the same trac off light on my alero 2000 2.4 L ( 189000km). But my tranny does not appear shifting hard ,
Bynalor mentions a easy way to check it out by unpluggging the big gray colored connector and reconnect it again. Where is the exact location of this connector and what does it look like ( inside the engine compartment ? ) I appreciate some help. In the past, whenever I press the ETS button, the "Trac off " warning light will be responsive to the switch. but now the warning light can't be turned off by pressing the ETS anymore. Wonder why? |

Re: 2000 alero 2.4 trac off light on tranny shifts hard
Thanks for the detailed pic from bynalor.
I was considering to have the car scanned for diagnostic trouble codes in a car dealer. But , strangely the "trac off " warning light disappeared today without any unusal occurance. Now the car seems working well, with the "trac off "light des not stay on when I turn on the engine . I only hope the warning light won't come back on again. |

Re: 2000 alero 2.4 trac off light on tranny shifts hard
took my alero to the gm dealer thinking if they can't fix it then nobody can so I dropped it off got a loaner next day the guy called me and I could tell by his voice he didn't fix it!! so nothing was wrong with the 20 way connect but he thought it was the key switch was causing everything BUT that was a guess which is a 300 bucks guess told him not to do anything kept the loaner for 2 days til he wanted it back got my car ran it for two days then TRADED the thing for a 2003 jeep grand cherokee with 37000k got 2000 for a trade and got that monkey off my back so happy that car is gone but now it's gonna cause someone else helllllllllllll
words of wisdom trade your alero before you go broke see you in the jeep forums I'm out
