clutch won't bleed

I have an 89 4cyl with 5-speed, long story short it got real hard to get into gear, I have tried to bleed the system with no luck, it is just a constant stream of air. I bought a vacum bleeder but no luck. It seems like it might have an air leak somewhere, but where? checked it all master, slave, resivor, line. Out of patience. any help suggestions? thanks

Re: clutch won't bleed

Fill the reservoir, leave the cap off, open the bleeder and let it gravity bleed. Do not allow the master cylinder to run low on fluid. When only fluid comes out of the bleeder, close it. Refill the master cylinder and install the cap. Open the bleeder and have an assistant push the clutch pedal down slowly, close the bleeder just before the pedal hits the floor. Repeat the last step if necessary until you have a satisfactory pedal. Do not pump the pedal when attempting to bleed.

Re: clutch won't bleed

Good point , when bleeding a hydralic clutch you must open the bleeder then push the clutch pedal down slowlywith the cap off the resivoir. You have to keep a close eye on the res. cause it will not hold much fluid . How many mi. on the old clutch , preassure plate may need replacing.I can remember an 87 chevy full size pickup that I owend, I had rebuilt the tranny and had put a new clutch plate preassure plate throw out bearing clutch master cylinder the very following year I was having real bad problems getting it into gear unless it was shut off . I pulled the tranny back out and all seemd fine. But with the problems that I had I bought another clutch set and installed it, never had another problem . good luck
