AC making rattle noise
Hey all
I noticed recently that when my ac is on, theres a rattle from under the hood. It goes away as soon as i turn it off, and comes back as soon as i turn it on. Suggestions? (edit: Forgot to mention, 98 intrigue, 95k miles) |

Re: AC making rattle noise
Sounds like a clutch bearing problem on the AC compressor. Rockauto has the bearings and the clutch priced pretty well. $20 for the bearings and $40 for the clutch. I think you could do this repair yourself if you had the time and tools.

Re: AC making rattle noise
Mine used to do this. The noise would vary with RPMS. Then the A/C quit working altogether. All it needed was a recharging and it worked great and had no noise. Now it doesn't work again, but that's an unrelated issue.

How about the reverse of theis. I get a metal on metal noise off and on but I make it go away each time I turn on the A/C or Defroster and this has been about 2 months. Same A/C compressor bearings & clutch problem? And is it a repair where the compressor does not have to be removed or replaced?
TIA

haha mine does exactly the same thing, I would think it could be the same problem, I havent messed with it, because my AC still works, and the noise eventually goes away.
