Turbo Question
I have a TD04 off a Conquest/Starion and I am planning on putting it on my car here pretty quick. My friend has a 1998 Eclipse GS, and just bought a Hahn Racecraft Turbo and Manifold used off ebay. We are planning on doing this project together. My big question is of course...what ALL is needed. The most obvious parts are the turbo itself, which i already have, and a manifold. Then the charge pipes, a downpipe, and and intercooler, although its not necessary. What do I need as far as an oil pump, lines, and any fuel pressure/oil pressure regulators and such go? I am trying to keep a $500-$600 budget. What are the necessities just to get it going. I dont need a boost timer, and all the gauges and such, just simply a decent homemade turbo setup. I have been to www.homemadeturbo.com as well for a few resources.

Well, for a $500-$600 budget you are going to be cutting it close. You shouldn't need a new oil pump or fuel pressure regulator. But the rest of the parts you will need. You'll also need some kind of ecu chip and upgraded injectors. You will need an oil line to feed oil to the turbo as well as one going from the turbo down to the oil pan. Some turbos have coolant lines as well, but it's not necessary to run them, but it does help for longevity of your turbo. I would recommend at least a boost gauge, oil pressure and air 2 fuel gauges - they well help you a lot with your tuning and to help you know if anything is going wrong with your setup. I'd also recommend a new clutch so you don't burn up your stock one really quick. I think I got everything except the BOV. But you have the right idea - keep reading up on them and you'll probably find a couple other things to do. Oh I would HIGHLY recommend ARP head studs - those will save your headgasket from blowing too quick.

what do i do about getting the oil TO the turbo and recirculating it? do i need an in line oil pump or something? and what about boost? how do i know/adjust the boost? wastegaste spring? i think the td04 is set stock at like 6 psi. i should be ok on stock internals on that, correct? i dont gear band it really. i take it pretty easy. i dont race on a regular basis.

and a 4g4d store would probably be different routes and prices of turbo set ups. hes probably got a few hundred into it thus far and ive got almsot 2 grand in mine. its jsut a brand and product war.

You don't need an inline oil pump - most people tap into the back of the motor where your stock oil pressure sender is and put a "T" in it and run a line up to the turbo, then the turbo return line just dumps into the oil pan. As far as boost goes, as long as your bottom end is good and you have it tuned correctly you should be able to do up to 11psi without any problems. But you'll be fine with the stock wastegate setting which is usually around the 6-8psi.

What about bigger injectors? Necessary? And is there a place that sells turbo kits as cheap as they do on ebay. I might as well just start new. I dont even know if the turbo I have sitting in my garage works. A friend gave me it about a year ago.

Yes, you will need bigger injectors, and no, ebay is the cheapest for complete kits, but I'd recommend against them. I've heard they are hit and miss - you may get a good one, or you may get a bad one. Tough to say.

-Turbo -Manifold -Downpipe/exhaust -wastegate (unless the turbo is internally gated, which i'm sure it is...) -BOV -Charge piping/couplers -intercooler -oil lines (www.stealthmodeperformance.com) -DSM 440cc injectors -tuning system/tuning
