Quick Question

When bridging an amp, do the ohms halve like they do when you wire them in parallel? Another quick one; can you wire two subs in parallel on a bridged channel?

on most amps, you can run either 2 or 4 ohm before bridge, but once you bridge MOST amps will only run 4 ohm.

just remeber.... bridging halves the impedance each amp half "sees" - so if you bridge an amp and put a 4 ohm load on it (total), each of the amps (left and right) only effectivley sees 2 ohms.

Oh geesh, I know we would get into the "ohms" question as soon as I read the title...

Alright, a NORMAL 2 channel amp you can run it the following ways...

2 channels x 4 ohms
2 channels x 2 ohms
1 channel x 4 ohms bridged

So if you have TWO dual 4 ohm subwoofers you could either run them (2 channels x 2 ohms) or (1 channel x 4 ohms bridged) but you couldnt just throw them all on the same line to get a 1 ohm load, since most likely you will toast them amp - that is unless its like a mono channel amp which would be able to take this sort of load.

Dont worry about all the DETAILS to what an amp "sees" etc. Its pretty useless to consumers...

sometimes I wonder .... I know I knew NOTHING when I started making speakers at like 12 or so. I think that either you need to learn this stuff (ohms and bridging and the stuff) if you really want to do this stuff, especially if you want to do it RIGHT. It just never ceases to amaze me, a guy puts a post - aight, I got an amp, now where do the wires go .......... If it's not pretty intuitive after reading the installation manual, you should seriously consider getting someone to do it for you - that way us DIYers won't keep getting a bad name.
