Re: 98 GAGT Engine swap.

Welcome to AF.

Have you tried doing a search in the Grand am forum or the N-Body sections?
Thiers been lots of "talk" about thing but no specifics that I know of.

If you can get a 3.4 it should bolt up to the 4t60 transmission your 98' has.I dont know if the 3.8 would bolt up with out modifications.
I would stray from the 99+ automatic tranys, the 4t40-4t45E are terrible :

My 99' GT transmission(4t45E)has been giving me fits this past weekend,
and I'm about to throw it in a lake!

Re: 98 GAGT Engine swap.

i was also wondering about this. if you did succesfully mounted the engine would all the sensors be the same or what? And would there be enough room to put on 01 OR Better headers?

Re: 98 GAGT Engine swap.

If you are just swapping the motors then the new engine mounts need to be used. The problems occur when you have nothing to mount them too.

So at this point you'll need to fab a way to mount the engine mounts to the sub frame & trans.

On performance check these links.

Might also check Ebay

Some 3.4 parts will fit the 3.1's, like the TB and maybe headers.
Good Hunting.
