Upper engine clank/knock

Car started making a tinny clanking sound. Like something rattling around in a valve cover or maybe the timing chain slapping against the cover. I can't quite isolate it. Any ideas at 65 k miles where I should start? Not too loud when the car is first started cold but when warmed up it is more noticeable. thanks for any responses.

Re: Upper engine clank/knock

Is it the 2.7?It is the timing chain and get it fixed asap.Do not drive it that way.If the timing chain breaks on a 2.7,the valves bend and it is an interferance engine.I have seen the valve covers broken due to the broken timing chain. An used 2.7 is hard to find, about $1,500.00 to $2,500.00 for an used one with no warranty.

Re: Upper engine clank/knock

I agree. It will destroy the engine if the timing chain breaks. I would also recommend replacing the tensioner and guides on the chain and if you have the money, the water pump.
