98 crown vic lx misfires/hesitates

have a 98 cv lx with about 107,000 miles, she was running perfect, garaged kept until one day i was driving and she started to hesitate and sputter real bad as as i drove, it was annoying, i had a friend look at it and we did a tune up, but we took it to atuo zone and the scan read misfire cylinder #5, it drives fine up to about 40mph then starts to sputter and buckle, at idle, we were looking at #5's injector and removing it brought the same synmptoms i notice when i drive, could thisbe a bad injector? or connection, it starts up fine then when it warms up, it does that, sometimes though I CAN GET ON THE HIGHWAY UP TO 60 OR 70 AND SHE RUNS GREAT, IT IS WHEN SHE IS IN BETWEEN IN THE LOW GEARS THAT SHE DOES THAT... any ideas.. anyone?

Re: 98 crown vic lx misfires/hesitates

My 95 CV at about 80000 miles had a similar problem with misfire on cylinder #8. I removed this spark plug, checked and regapped it, cleared code, but same error code came up again. Replacing spark plug wires fixed it.

I don't believe that the 98 has wires. It probably has 8 coils. You have a bad coil. About 100 bucks and your back on the road at full speed.
