POWER Window help please

1988 town car the power window on drivers side front will not work.Has power vent window also.
I don't hear no motor running when I try it. Are they hard to fix with the power vent window. Tks. Danny

1988 is way out of my league

If you see a power draw when you hit the switch, it's either a frozen motor or something blocking the track. I'm not sure if your's has just tracks and gears or a Regulator.

If there's no power draw when you hit the switch (dimming lights, etc), there's some electrical problem. Broken wire, bad switch, bad motor.

In any case, you'll have to open the door panel to see what's the problem.
After the panels off you can easily test the power leads and motor.

It all depends on the condition of the panels. Yours are nearly 20 years old, the panels are made of pressed cardboard, the retainers may be a bit corroded, oxidized, or rusted therefore making them more difficult to pop off.

If they've ever been carelessly removed in the past, the panels may be damaged where the retainers are clipped to them, or missing fasteners where they tore through.

If you use a proper panel puller from any autoparts store the chances of damage during the R&R is greatly minimized. Also, if you have one window problem, the others will be acting up soon, so a tool may be handy in the future.

After the Door Pull Handles, Armrests, and other Hardware is removed, use a Door Panel removal tool to feel for the spring or Christmastree fasteners.
With a careful prying motion, pop each fastener from the door, remember, the fastener remains attached to the door panel, and pops from the door.

It's usually best to use your free hand, with fingers under the panel, to help the tool pop the fasteners.

Once all the fasteners are popped, the panel should be loose and ready to lift off the top of the door. You may have to unscrew the Door Lock from the top of the door first.

With a rocking / lifting motion, remove the door panel from the top of the door. If there's any resistance felt, investigate for a hidden fastener, then continue the removal.

If you want to practice first, goto a U-Pick wrecking yard and do some there first.

They have never been removed before. The car has never set out in the wheather. But it does have 124,000 miles on it.I found a new motor on E Bay for $29.00 . I bought the car off e bay this week for $500.00 and drove it home 400 miles.Run and drove like a new car. The only thing I can find wrong with it power windows on driver side, cat. needs replacing. power ant. doesn't work.
The people I bought it from had it serviced for my trip no charge.
It has never been out in the weather also 4 racing mags on it and new cd player. The car has always been serviced at Smith ford in Tulsa Ok.
Not bad deal huh 100% rust free new alt. and battery on it also.

124,000 miles is nothing on that car. You made out real well.

That antenna can be tested fairly easily with some hot wires. I don't think anyone here would have a 19 year old factory unit for you.. you may have to get a universal fit power antenna from your favorite auto parts store.

As much as I hate ebay, that sounds like a great deal. Some times you can make a good find there. I have seen some fairly decent new after market power antennas for around 20 bucks. Not a bad way to go. Good luck with the new car.

Thanks I thought it was a heck of a deal.I didn't really mean to buy it .I had a watch on this car and one hour before the auction was to end someone bid $500.00 so I just bid $510.00 and I won. Thanks Danny in Arkansas

Ok I got the door panel off drilled out the 4 rivets motor still don't move so I can't remove the motor. Do i need also need to remove the window?

I really don't know that setup personally... there may be a fastener on the rear end of the motor assembly, but that's not likely. From memory there's only 4 fasteners. Maybe the burs from the drilling are keeping it from coming off?

Use caution when the gear from the motor assy. releases from the frame or regulator, the gear may be ALL that keeps the window from falling.
That said, the downward tension may be holding the gear in place. A slight lifting of the window, removing the weight from the gear, may help.

Thanks I didn't have to take it all the way off for some unknown it started working.So I put bolts in it and greased it good and installed the door panel.
So I have a new motor for future use. At least I know how it works now. Thanks All Danny
