Possible Head Problem? I don't know
I have a 91 civic non-vtec. There is knock in the valvetrain that at first wasn't really noticable but gradually over the past year it has gotten much louder. It started after I overheated in summer traffic. Is there any connection from overheating and the knocking? Do you have any suggestions on how I might solve the problem? Also, it seems like I have lost a significant amount of power since then. I would appreciate any suggestions. Thanks.

Re: Possible Head Problem? I don't know
I'm sure it has a lot to do with the over heating. Besides running out of oil, over heating is the worst thing you can do to an engine. Where does the knock come from? Top or bottom of engine? A simple valve adjustment can't hurt & needs to be done any way.

Your overheating could be due to many things, check for leaks first. You could also have a stuck thermostat. Feel both rad hoses, if the bottom one is cold while the upper one is hot, you need to replace your thermostat, 10 dollar fix.
