Re: gas gauge indicates wrong

well it could be a faulty ground for the dash gage or the sender unit on the fuel pump is munfuctioning or also a faulty ground.. to test ur dash locate the power lead and ground lead from the fuel pump sending unit (lookes like a big lever on the pump) well jump the ground b4 the sender and if the gauge reacts then its a good indicater that ur gauge works.. next check to see if the fuel pump is getting a good ground.. if you conferm good ground its very likily to say the fuel pump sender unit is faulty

Most likely the sending unit on the tank... start at that end.

If it is an early model ... say before mid-'90's ... it may also be the instrument voltage regulator, which is mounted on the instrument printed circuit.
