Car shakes and dies...when stopped

I own a Mazda 626 Coronos '93 I believe, when I drive around the car has no problems what so ever, BUT when I stop at a red light the rpm bar starts going up and down and the car eventually dies, after that I start it up and its running smooth agian, until the next stop light.

This dosent happen offten also, some days it dose that some it dosen't.

Could anyone know what could be possibly wrong with my engine?

possibly a sticking EGR. Possibly a ripped air snorkel....to name just two possibilities.

Re: Car shakes and dies...when stopped

pull the vacuum line off the EGR valve and plug in a cheapo vacuum gauge to the line. if it reads a vacuum while you are stopped at idle then you have a
faulty EGR vacuum/vent solenoid pack. if no vacuum is present at the line at idle and the problem is gone you have a sticking EGR valve. if it still does it you may have other problems such as cracked intake air hose or a bad idle air control valve. also... did you change or disconnect your battery recently? if you did you will need to adjust the idle air bleed screw on the throttle body. a turn or two counter clockwise should be sufficient

I was looking around the car engine and I did check the air intake hose and it was cracked....but shouldn't that really matter...even tho its cracked its still sucking air isnt it?

Re: Car shakes and dies...when stopped

on a mass air flow system, there is a meter that measures the amount of air entering the motor. If you have a leak between the sensor and the intake plenum, then the sensor will think very little air is getting into the engine, and will throw the fuel quanity way off because of it.

I'm assuming its has a mass air flow sensor...I'm pretty sure it does
