dsm bov install, car wont run now

so i just installed my 1g dsm bov. the install was quick, rather smooth and almost exactly as the install guide on stealth316 suggested (with the exception that the adapter flange i got was a little bigger and i had to get a bigger pipe to accomodate). i thought i was gold, reset the ecu and started the car up... and it died. started again, rough idle and eventually died (but stopped throwing a CEL somewhere along the second try). well i had to go to work so i grabbed my mom's car and left.

i just got back reset the ecu again (unplugged for 15 minutes), started it up and it died. started it up again and it idled at 1100 fine for about 5 or 6 minutes and then sputtered a few times and died. now it won't idle at all, just starts and dies. if i poke at the throttle it will keep the engine alive but it's running rich or lean or something and doesn't sound healthy at all and is throwing a CEL the whole time.

i have been told before i tried installing this bov that i might have a bad o2 sensor due to some odd behavior after track driving. i don't know if this would affect it terribly but it ran perfectly before i tried doing this (further proof that i must be the worst mechanic ever...lol). i have no idea what's wrong. i'd rather not have to reinstall the old leaky, honky bov but at least that was better than a driveway peice.

i'd really appreciate any help you guys could offer.

sounds like a mass air flow problem to me.. try unplugging the mas and starting up the car.. just let it run like that see if it changes anything

really, it sounds like he forgot to plug his mass air flow sensor back in after he was done with the installation.

Bingo Been there myself. Make sure it's plugged in, and make sure you put your entire intake back together. You probably just overlooked the obvious...doesn't make you the worst mechanic ever.

Re: dsm bov install, car wont run now

okay, pretty sure the mas is bad. it runs "fine" when its unplugged. it wont boost over 7 or 8 psi and smells rich sometimes but with the mas plugged in it really doesn't run. so that would mean a bad mas right?

-edit- and its still throwing a cel, both with the mas in and out.

Re: dsm bov install, car wont run now

Have you bothered to pull the code yet? That pretty much tells you what is wrong. MAS going bad at the same instant you are installing your BOV seems a bit far-fetched unless you damaged it.

Re: dsm bov install, car wont run now

probably a massive vacume leak from something you didn't plug in or hook up correctly. So when you plug in the MAS it gives enough fuel for the air that it sees, but it is getting more air than that so it dies. I would check all your vacume lines and pressure test.

Re: dsm bov install, car wont run now

yeah, i drove the car with the mas unplugged. i hear a something leakin' terrible. this might sound retarded, but i had to get a bigger pipe to fit the adaptor flange i had made and the plug on the y-pipe was too small so i wrapped some duct tape around it for a snugger fit, i did the same thing on another plug but i can't remember where. i thought it would be air tight but i bet that probly where it's leaking. im going to pull the whole thing apart again today and maybe put the old stuff back in if i can't find the leak.

is it also possible that the BOV i got is bad? it almost sounded too good to be true, $30 shipped on ebay... but it looks fine except for a small dent in the top part.
