94 GTP troubles, any input would be appreciated.
I own a 94 gtp and recently it has been a pain. I drove to my friends house one night without a sign of trouble. When I tried to leave, I started my car but it sputtered. When I tried to give it a bit of gas it died. I tried that twice and gave up because it was late. I returned the next day to figure out what was going on and the car wouldnt fire up. It turns over just fine, but wont gimme a sign of combustion. Now I dont think the fuel pump is priming but dont know if it is the fuel pump itself or if something is wrong electricaly. My battery, engine, and oil pressure light remain on with the key in pre-ignition and i dont know if they usually do that and just clear when the engine actually starts and idles. Sorry if this is hard to fallow. My car is a 94 grand prix gtp with approx 235000 k on it. Brand new alternator and battery, tranny just flushed, oil filter changed every 5000k on the dot, along with oil, new air filter. I just need an idea of where to start. oh and the fuel pump relay in the passenger side underhood fuse box looks like it had a bit of electrical scoring on it
any feed back would be appreciated |

Re: 94 GTP troubles, any input would be appreciated.
Welcome to AF!!
If the relay looks burnt that could be the issue, so you may want to replace it. Otherwise, find the shrader fitting on the fuel rail and have someone turn the key on. Press the valve with a screwdriver and if fuel shoots out of the fitting then the pump should be working. Be careful since it is under a lot of pressure. If you don't get fuel then the issue is the pump or a blocked filter. Another simple test is to remove the tubing from the air filter at the throttle body. Have someone spray starting fluid into the throttle body while chanking, if it starts the fuel pump is probably the culpirt. If not check he ignition system as you may have a bad ignition module, coils or crank position sensor. Good Luck!! |
