Re: oil cooler return line hose

Just curious, Why the flush? Ive done the drain and change, and the filter and change at 50thou. Its really easy and stright forward on the Aisin trans. That way you would get to see the state ur trans mission is in. Andie

I am just curious how it would work other than drain and refill.

By the way, I got the fuel filter replaced and I guess according to you I don't need the blue washer things. Both of them fell out and I just ignored them.

I got the ACDelco from the dealer. The part number is different but it fits.

Thanks for your input on both subjects.

Re: oil cooler return line hose

oh, I did a drain and refill thru the drain plug but haven't replace the filter or anything like that yet.

I heard you don't need to change the filter until 60k or so.

Re: oil cooler return line hose

k, The filter is actually a wire mesh, so I think without something horrible happening it could be cleaned and reused. Ive found Auto Zone, Checker, and the Fram and Delco sites have the wrong filter listed. They only show the filter for the GM trans which only was used to the mid 03, when Isuzu switched to the Aisin trans. Best way to tell is look up an 03 and see if they have 2 filters listed.
There are 3 helpful things I learned in this process. 1. Remove the dipstick. 2. After its drained good replace the plug. The pan holds about a quart of fluid even after its drained. When you wiggle it around to get it off the dipstick tube it will all come poring out. 3. Try to loosen the holder for the dipstick tube on the motor. When trying to put the pan back on it will cause a little bind and make it harder to line up the bolts. For mine it took 5 and a half quarts of DextronIII.
Actuall the hardest part is cleaning off that red gunk to reinstall the gasket. Have fun. Andie

Re: oil cooler return line hose

cool and since you have opened it:

I looked on their websites and the picture shows a cylinder and a flat piece of plastic. Which is the filter?

Is there a magnet inside the pan like they say?

Can you reuse the gasket?

Re: oil cooler return line hose

They are both filters, but for the GM transmissin. Seems the web site u looked at hasnt made the change. You can go to the Purolatore site and cross reference from there, it is the only correct part no. ive found. The Aisin filter is about 5x10in and about 2 in thick made of metal. I will post a pic for you tomarrow. And yes it was 4 magnets in mine. Sorry I forgot to mention them. They just waped clean. If it hasnt been change before there will be no gasket. Its sealed with a red plastic gunk. Andie

Re: oil cooler return line hose

oh thanks for the info.

yeah post the pic please !

let me sum it up:

1. no gasket if never opened AT pan before. if open today, need new gasket and get rid of red gunk

2. filter is made of metal so may not need to be replaced. just clean.

4 . there are 4 pieces of magnets inside the pan.

Why dont you want to flush thru oil cooler lines?

Re: oil cooler return line hose

The metal box you see in the pictures just hold the wire mesh, and to guide the fluid through the mesh. I couldnt tell which way the fluid flows thru it, but if cleaning it I would try to go the opposite way with the cleaner. I will try to find the pictures I took of the pan, the mangnets were just on the botton of it. Andie
