steering column removal

hey people, i need answers!!

I am replacing my steering column in my 90 cavalier with a tilt from a 91. i am getting the wire diagrams from the local chevy dealer, but i cant seem to remove the steering column from the 90. i have already undone the bolts holding it near the steering wheel. what else do i need to disconnect in order to pull it out? i have to be rid of my parts car (a 1991 cavalier, email me at [email protected] if you need some 2nd gen parts) by monday and i really want that damn tilt column!!!

somebody HELP ME HERE!!!!

i figured it would have slipped out of the bit down at the u-joint on the cab side of the firewall, but it doesnt seem to want to.

Re: steering column removal

ok, was finally able to figure out all that was holding it. another bolt straight down the top of the colum, you gotta kinda pull the column down a little bit to see it, and also there was a bolt in the slipring on the u-joint that clamped and also held from the column from pulling out until said bolt was removed. now that i know how it comes apart it will only take me a few minutes to replace, but, now i need wiring diagrams for both a 90 cavi column harness and a 91 cavi column harness. i have written down everything and know what each plug goes to, but there are a coupe differences between the two years, othere than different plugs. the wires seem to follow the same scheme, other than that the 90 has a thick red wire, presumably power going into the headlight switch on the dash, and said wire is missing on the controls of the 91. also the location of a couple of black wires confuses me on the 91. other than that, it seems i should be able to splice wire for wire between the two. does anybody have diagrams so that i can double check?

dont tell me to use alldata or mitchell1 cause i have no money for that. if i had money i would have used them already.

Re: steering column removal

ok i have most of the wiring figured out, but i still need help with the rest
on the headlight plug on the 90, there is white and orange, already figured out those go to the dome light. there is a black wire, common ground presumably, and i think the green wire goes to the dash lights. i need comfirmation of that, and also need to know what the others are. i got my wiper controls and hazard wiring done. now i need these. i also need to know what wires are what on the 90 ignition plugs. i know what they are on the 91 column, and i dont want to screw up. is there anybody with access to alldata or mitchell1 that can provide me with a pinout? i already got the wiring diagrams from alldata, but they dont show the pinouts, just regular wiring diagram.

can anybody help me?
