temp gauge 92 taurus

on my 92 3.0 taurus the temp gauges flucuates between the the very first part of the normal range and goes up to the n where normal is. when it gets to the n the fan comes on. well if it is real hot out after a while the fan will shut off and the gauge will continue to go up to m in the normal and the fan will come on again. were should the gauge be at normally or is this normal. idont want to overheat my baby girl.

Re: temp gauge 92 taurus

You're not mentioning under what road conditions these things are occurring.Whether it's at a stoplight or freeway speed or just around town. Also, the elevation can make a difference.

I would think going to the "m" would be too high, unless you have the AC on full but then the fan would be on. On my 95 the temp was flucuating also. About to mid range on long stoplights or long hills. Bear in mind I had replaced the heater core, rad, hoses and thermostat. It was only after all that I realized the water pump was leaking. It would let loose some steam and on a closer inspect I could see where coolant had seeped out of the weep hole. Since replacing the water pump the temp guage has stayed at the "n". When summer comes then I'll find out if all my efforts were successful.

in town is when this takes place. at stop lights or when i run in the store and leave it run. i dont have any leaks i put a tstat in. on the highway it flucuates between the first white slash and goes to the n and back down.

Re: temp gauge 92 taurus

Don't get caught up in trying to figure out what the best "letter" is for your vehicle,, could and probably varies from car to car... as long as the fan kicks on and the gauge runs down again, you'll be fine... heating up in traffic with no a\c is normal, movement will bring it back down,, btw, around here, leaving your car unattended while running is illegal and people have been ticketed if a cop happens by and notices it..
