2002 2.7 P0340

I have a 2002 intreped with the 2.7 engine. A week or so ago the check engine light came on and the car started bucking when I increased the throttle, like it was starving for fuel. A couple of days ago it did the same thing for a while and then the light goes off. I put my obdII on it and it stored a P0340 code (camshaft position sensor malfunction). My question is do I simply replace the sensor or are there some other remedies that i should attempt first.

Replace the cam sensor and it is a dealer part only.
