I have a 2003 cherokee and the check engine light keeps coming on. Ive had it reset twice and place a new gas cap on but it keeps coming up as a large evap leak. Also when i start the vehicle when it is cold a steady succession of beeps comes from the gas tank area and stops after a minute or so. Could there be a comon link between the two. Because of the check engine light i wont pass a vehicle inspection. Any suggestions ?
Thanks |

Re: Large evap leak, beeping from gas tank
Had the same thing on our 2004 Wrangler. We had a leak in the evaporator control module, a $37 part. If you're still in your warranty (7/70) period, you might be able to get it replaced for free, as we did. I understand it's not that difficult a repair to do yourself, but I don't know the location for the replacement.

Re: Large evap leak, beeping from gas tank
Sure thing. You could also try resetting the check engine light about 1/2 mile from the inspection station, and hope it didn't come back on during the inspection. ....
