gt60E tranny to 6t65e tranny conversion in 97 GPGT

Hey I need some serious help. I have a 1997 Grand Prix GT with 220,000 miles and I need to know if there is any way to know whether or not my car has a gt60e or a gt65e transmission. I understand the gt65e was introduced in 1997 but I'm not sure if one is in my car or not. Also, I have a 1999 grand prix available and I'm wondering if I could get the transmission out of it and put into my car. Any help would be greatly appreciated by a faithful grand prix lover. Please answer or send an email to [email protected] if you have any answers or questions.

Re: gt60E tranny to 6t65e tranny conversion in 97 GPGT

Welcome to AF.

You most likely have a 4T60E not the 4T65E. Only the 97 GTP had the 4T65E-HD tranny back then. Look on your SPID label on the back of the trunk lid. M13=4T60E. M15 = 4T65E. MN7 = 4T65E-HD.

To put a 4T65E in to yours you will need to replace the complete tranny/engine wiring harness and the PCM module as a minimum.
