hi everyone, i have a 95 maxima with 145k on the clock. both of the front cv boots are ripped. They haver been ripped for a month or so now, and im sure at some point in the near future the axles will have to be replaced. i am pretty mechanically inclined. so far with the maxima i have done the following work myself : replaced starter, sparkplugs, rear brake bads, calipers, and rotors, and various exhuast components.
i have a haynes manual but am not sure if i want to attempt this job on my own. do you think it is within my capabilities? i got a quote for around 150 for labor if i provide the axles (130 for both sides at autozone after core charge). i was wondering if anyone had done this and had a rite up or any advice. ive searched around here and other sites and the closest thing i found was on motorvate??? i think the name was. the mechanic i got the labor quote from said the passenger side can be a pita to get out of the bearing that its bolted into. im also nervous about having to remove the passenger side axle, and banging out the driver side through the transmission. i def think i COULD do the work im just nervous about messing with the transmission (ie banging out the driver side i guess theres some sort of clip locking it in). thanks and sorry for the long post

Re: Should i attempt doing the axles on a 95 maxima my self???
Nothin is out of your capabilities. Just make the decision what u want and then never let go. (I am very happy after my self inflicted errors are corrected, can start on the original issues...)
My guess is that findin right axles is the most difficult issue; ppl say there are 5 lookalikes causing problem. The pass bearing shroud opens at least with a 2feet 'chisel' when hammering down on the seam (hood off). Check this & links : http://www.cardomain.com/ride/748507/25 |

Re: Should i attempt doing the axles on a 95 maxima my self???
FWD's, even Citroen, design & swap problematics are 95% all the same. Job description: I'd rather be sailing...
