transmission whining

have a 72 mgb. has been sitting for 10 plus years. brought it back up. runs ok. have noticed a squirelly, high pitched noise coming from the transmission or clutch. i know it is from ther because we put it up on the rack and ran it in gear and listened. it occurs while driving in all gears. it is not affected by clutch action. trans fluid is nml on the stick. am at a loss. any ideas out there. gears change ok. slight squeak at shift lever with change.

Re: transmission whining

Remove the drive shaft, the actual location of a noise can be hard to determine. If the noise goes away it's in the drive shaft or differential. If you still have the noise it's in the transmission or clutch area. You probably have a bearing that has dried out and rusted when the car was idle for 10 years.

Re: transmission whining

You should have started another thread because your last question isn't related to the thread title. That said, is your cooling system boiling or pushing water out when it's hot? Is your fuel gauge accurate? If the fuel gauge isn't accurate your voltage stabilizer is probably bad. It supplies the fuel and heat gauges. The stabilizer is on the fire wall above the pedals. It has green wires for an input and light green/green output. There should be 12volts on the input and a varying voltage on the output averaging around 10 volts. If good I would check the coolant temperture with a cooking thermometer to see if you actually have a overheating problem. What type radiator did you buy, made in China? 4 rows or 3?
