I have an E39 530i 2001. It suffers from intermittant loss of power under acceleration and occaisonally slightly longer on the starter to start.
No Engine management fault is indicated but a DTC (Pcode) does exist in th fault memory. This is P0344 and, according to my manual, this is intermittant circuit of camshaft position sensor 'A'? Is this the inlet or exhaust cam? are theses sensors a common fault? Jim |

Re: E39 With intermittant engine power loss
P0344 is for the intake camshaft sensor. If that fault exists, the sensor is faulty. This is very common

Re: E39 With intermittant engine power loss
With my '92 535I they had a common problem with the check valve for the fuel pump. (Hard to re-start after a quick shut down.) Solution is to replace the check valve.
It could also be the fuel pump, fuel filter(s), or even the injectors. Try some fuel injector cleaner to see if that helps with the surging. Hopefully that's it. But it doesn't seem so with the car throwing codes. Damn computers.
