97 SE 3.8 series II stalls randomly
My Grand Prix will just stall at any speed usually once or twice a day. It will then not restart for a few minutes. Found out today on the highway that if I just keep going it will restart on its own. Any ideas what this might be. I have replaced only fuel filter on it so far. Thanks

Re: 97 SE 3.8 series II stalls randomly
Welcome to AF!!
You are falling victim to the dreaded crank position sensor issue. Common among GM products. When they start to go you will get a random stalling issue and after they cool down the car will usually restart easily. Have it replaced and the problem should go away. |

Re: 97 SE 3.8 series II stalls randomly
Thanks for the reply. Kinda what I expected after rumaging through the site. Sounds kind of like a pain to replace so I bought the part and scheduled someone more qualified to change it out.

Re: 97 SE 3.8 series II stalls randomly
There are many causes to stalling problems but the CPS given the proper circumstances and symptoms is usually the culpret. Fuel delivery is another problem as you stated and a blocked or semi-blocked fuel filter is another. Changing the filter regularly can prevent this from happening.
