Re: +20 HP chip?

Well technically if the right resistor is used, then yes it will add power. But the way it does it is not really safe. I would never put one on my car.

Re: +20 HP chip?

Avoid piggybacks if your car is a turbo you could almot get a mbc for that.

Dreamspawn: I don't have a turbo, but what is a piggyback? and what is an mbc?

Re: +20 HP chip?

Piggy back is resistor/cpu whatever that changes a signal on it way to where ever its going. Better way to say is you tell sombody hey give me 5$ but somthing changes that info on it way to the person to hey give me 10$ make sense? A mbc is Manual Boost Controller a way to "overide" the stock waste gate and make more boost.

There is nothing wrong with piggy backs, but a fixed value for something that is supposed to be a variable is the wrong way to do it.

The resistor tells the computer it is a certain temperature instead of letting the temp sensor read correctly. The computer in turn thinks there is more oxygen entering the engine and advances the timing slightly and adds more fuel if needed. If it is actually very hot out but your computer thinks it is cold it may be adding too much timing and you will knock, or too much fuel and you will actually lose power.

Re: +20 HP chip?

i see exactly what youre saying. But he says that you just plug the chip in and it does its thing, and if you want it to stop then just take it out. If that's the case, why couldn't I just pop it in for a specific drive, when I'm certain conditions are good, then take it out when i'm done so i dont expose my car to any more prolonged risk than i need to? I only need the extra power for whenever i wanna race my friends, so that lasts like 30 minutes tops at night when it's cool. All this in mind, what kind of risk would i still be running assuming that the chip may not even be in for more than 20-30 minutes?

Re: +20 HP chip?

Like I said before I wouldn't do it to my car. Given the information if you still choose to spend $20 on a 10 cent resistor from radio shack be my guest.

Re: +20 HP chip?

well if your running at night when the temp is ~60, then it really wont do anything anyways. The resistor that you linked to tells your computer that its 60* no matter what, so your really only "adding" power when its hot out.

Re: +20 HP chip?

So wait it tricks the ecu into thinking its colder to dump more fuel right? So without the more dense air that is at 60 would you not bit running it rich and loose gas milage and possibly hurt performance.

Re: +20 HP chip?

i agree with everything that talskinyguy says. Thats exactly how the resistor works, and i wouldn't put it on my car either.

Keep in mind how many people followed Hitler, or thought there was a spaceship coming behind a comet...so they drank the poisoned KoolAid and killed themselves. People are stupid. And anybody who bought this product was obviously uninformed to begin with...so of course they are going to say 'great deal'....'great product'....it's because they didn't know any better then and they don't know any better now.

It's a 10 cent resistor from Radioshack just as tallskinyguy said. If risking your engine is worth 5hp, and a paying $20 for a 10 cent resistor is what you want to do...by all means, it's your car, go break it. But I honestly think it might be more fun to just take a baseball bat to the car.

In the automotive world there are dozens of these BS products that people claim add all kinds of power.

Re: +20 HP chip?

Ok thanks guys for keeping me from messin up my car. Although I have to say that I am a bit embarassed for even submitting this, since it seems to be such an obvious mistake. Well, at least you know that the "newbie" tag under my name counts for something...Sorry for taking up thread space.
