Door Lock
I have a 2004 Chevrolet Aveo and it's a great car ... with the exception of a few problems; the latest one happened today.
I pushed my key into the door lock (it's a manual, not electric) and the lock fell INTO the door. Now, I don't have a lock. I went to the dealership near the school I teach at in order to see about getting it fixed; however, they told me that I would have to contact my insurance company because it meant that someone tried to break into my car and they broke the lock. The thing is, there weren't any scratches on or around the door or the lock and I've noticed before (but just contributed it to an overactive imagination) that the lock seemed to be a bit deeper in the 'lock hole' than it had been previously. Has anyone else had this issue, or am I really going to have to file an insurance claim in order to stop from having to climb over the passenger seat in order to drive my car? Any advice on how to fix this without is causing all of the problems that the dealership said it would cause? (I.E. taking the door apart, ordering new clamps, repainting the handle - even though there is no damage, and putting it back together again?) Many thanks. Sorry this is so long!! |

Re: Door Lock
Did they actually look at it to confirm that it was tampered with? Chances are it's not worth filing an insurance claim for this repair anyway. You may want to go to a service department that is a little more helpful and get an estimate then determine if it is worth filing an insurance claim. Most likely it is not worth it, especially since you say there is no sign of cosmetic damage. I doubt the mechanical repair is all that expensive.
