Re: 1989 camero fan doesnt turn on
There are 2 different units, one on the engine's left side between cylinders 1 and 3 that is for the temp gauge on the dash. The other is on the right side between cyls 6 and 8 that is the switch for the fan
You also have the engine temp sensor the the ECM uses on the intake just for note. Make sure you're replacing the right one. However, if it was replaced already and the problem is recuring, I would be looking at the wiring very closely. |

Re: 1989 camero fan doesnt turn on
he wirering has been checked out and is in good condition.the temp senser just doesnt want to turn the fan on its like it doesnt connect when the temp reaches the right temp to turn the fan on so i have to use my ac to cool it down the mechanic said it just wont work like its suppose to so i need to find an after market temp senser its the one on the right side of the block that sends the single to the fan so if you know wher i could find a good one that will work in place of the one thats there now. thanks again

Re: 1989 camero fan doesnt turn on
quik fix. hardwire electric fan to turn on at flip of switch...
problem: i did it once, had a smoking (electrical) car in downtown traffic.. cuz the FAN itself was the problem..make sure its in good workin cond. + add in a fuse.

Re: 1989 camero fan doesnt turn on
Personaly after dealing with a simialr problem, that (using a aftermarket) is not a bad solution, I would recommend going deluxe with it and get a adjusstable one at that. It doesn't solve the root problem but....
![]() As for hardwiring and switch, that's jsut begging for heartache.

thanks guys i am just ussing the ac for now. as i am thinking of having it all rewired to the fan and anew temp sensor.i hope that will do it now its the matter of finding the right machanic to do it i would take it back to my shop but they seem like they are confussed on this car it still wont pass emmisions it will pass the c02 levels but its not burnning all the fuel as you can smell gas fumes. it does run perty good it has power and acceleration but its just not right i really want to get this car running at top performance as its a sharp car and i think with the right machanic it will get done right i live in warrenville IL . so if you have heard of it its close to chicago i could use some good advice thanks agian you been a big help thanks

![]() I wanted to throw this in the last post, but didn't want to confuse you on all the sending units / sensors. There is another sensor, that the ECM uses for coolant temp on the front of the intake manifold. This (ECT) is a very important factor in determining fuel trim, more so than the O2 at times. |
