94 Gc Laredo Losing Power

Hi I have a 94 GC Laredo 4.0. I've been having problems with it. Hopefully someone could give me an idea of what's causing it.

First it sometimes takes a while to start. It will crank and after a few secs it will start up and will shake for a bit and then drive fine. I thought it might be the fuel filter so i replaced it. Did ok for a few days now its doing it again.

Now yesterday I was driving on the freeway and I lost power. It started to shake alot . I had the gas pedal to the floor and nothing. I pulled over waited a couple of minutes started right up??? Today it's been shaking like crazy ,sputtering no power.. any ideas would be appreciated.

sounds like something with the distributor. may be the fuel isn't igniting correctly? do you have a smell of rotten eggs from the jeep itself when you push the pedal to the floor? that could be a clogged catallitic converter. they are only two possibilities i can think off...

could be alot of things like a cylinder misfire or multiple misfire theres a TSB on that try a plug replacement all of them and see. do you get codes? could be CPS the converter I think maybe not.

Re: 94 Gc Laredo Losing Power

Finally got a chance to check it out. The rotor was fried.. any ideas on what would cause this? So I replaced rotor, cap, plugs and wires. Now running better than ever. I've only had this vehicle for a little over a month, but by the looks of the old plugs it's been awhile since they were replaced.

Thanks alot for your help

Thats just it; on these vehicles the rotor and cap of the distributor are a wear item, just like plugs and wires. They can and do wear out and have to be replaced.
