engine swap?
I have a 1996 Eclipse RS with a 2.0 liter DOHC engine. It has a lot of miles on it and I just recently replaced the transmission(automatic). I was wondering if it's possible to change the engine to one from another eclipse. I know they made the eclipse GSX and GS-T with the turbocharged engines. So I was wondering what I would need to do to change my engine to one from a GSX or GS-T? Would it be fine to just change it? Sorry if this sounds stupid, but I tryed everywhere else and can't find out. My engine has way to many miles and needs to be rebuilt or replaced soon.

Re: engine swap?
Well, first of all, welcome to AF. A simple search would have turned up many, many threads pertaining to this question, as it is asked many times per week. Next time please search, thanks.
Read this, it's about halfway down "What engine can I swap into my RS/GS?" It should discourage you from doing the swap as it is NOT worth it because the engine/tranny is reversed 180 degrees. http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=442393 Your best bet is to either re-build what you have or buy a new/used 420a motor that's already in your car. They come in the Eclipse RS/GS, Talon ESI, and the 95-98 Dodge Avenger 4cyl. |
