car stereo question

I'm looking to buy a used car stereo for my second car. I have one (already installed) that I love and I want to get the same model again, Only problem is that I can't find it new anywhere. I have found it used on ebay, but there's a slight problem. It comes with the unit, faceplate and mounting sleeve. Problem is that the wiring harness is NOT included. Is this item something that I can buy somewhere else or are they different from stereo to stereo and hard to replace? I like the stereo a lot like I said, but I don't think I should buy it if it's going to be a major PITA to get it hooked up.

Re: car stereo question

you can buy them on ebay, along with the used deck.

BTW, there is a car audio forum.

Re: car stereo question

Which harness are you referring to? There should be one that plugs into the back of the head unit, and then you can buy one that plugs into your existing factory stereo harness so you don't have to chop it off and hook all the wires up. It looks like this:

car factory wires -> harness that plugs into factory unit -> harness that plugs into that harness to expose color-coded wires to connect aftermarket head unit -> wires from aftermarket harness that plugs into head unit

The harness that plugs into the head unit should come with when you buy it. You just need the adapter to connect all the wires up, right? Walmart, radio shack, etc. carries those or you can buy them online or at a local car audio shop.

Re: car stereo question

Ok ok ok. I now know that there's a Car Audio forum. I thought it fit in the Computer/ELECTRONICS/Technology forum just fine. At least I'm not asking about a Chevette in the FORD forum!! Gosh!

Anyways, I'm not really sure which harness the listing refers to. The listing on ebay simply says that it "does not include the wiring harness." If the bidding doesn't go too high, I'll get it anyway and take my chances, however if it goes high, I'll just pass and not deal with the headache. Thanks for the help
