Spec-V Newb...

Yea...I just got an 02 V-spec yesterday. It has over 81,000 miles on it and runs like a champ. No smoke...no weird engine noises...no nothing. Drove it all day yesterday, all day today and I'm taking it to my mechanic tomorrow and I'm going to have him go through it with a fine tooth comb. He's an import specialist and my dad and I have been taking our cars there (2 Porsches, 3 300ZXs, a Celica, a Prelude and now the Sentra in all) and he really...REALLY...knows his shit...so we'll see what happens. I haven't signed the papers yet...

Really all I see wrong with the thing is:

The brakes make noise...whee...

It chunks a little when going into 3rd sometimes. Not always and never bad.

The front bumper needs repainted...I think...everyone I tell that to says it's fine but I think it needs cleaned up some.

Same with the hood...most say it's fine...I think it needs cleaned up some. I LOVE the front of these cars (main reason I got one) so it has to be perfect. Either I'll get it repainted too or find a carbon fiber one. (Do they make a CF hood for the 02 Spec-V? If so, where?)

The head lights have a weird...like...film on them. I looks kinda like they're fogged up, but they're not. It's actually on the outside and you can feel it...??? Anyone else seen this or have this problem?

I'll post pics of the whole car soon.

Any feedback...info...whatever is greatly appreciated. Thanks!!

Re: Spec-V Newb...

1. the brakes make a tad bid of noice, but not too much. check the pads and the rotors.

2. 2nd and 3rd syncros are known to become stripped as those gears are rather quick at WOT

3. vis racing makes hoods for them. i believe there is a group buy over at b15sentra.net for about 365 or so.

4. headlights have some coating on them. you can remove it with meguiar's plastix. it works great. but if you really want them back, w/o the wierd coating, you are going to have to wet sand.

Yea...I knew that...that's no big deal. I'll just make the dealer knock a couple hundred bucks off the financed price.

I figured...I've noticed this same kinda thing happen on just about every other car I've had and I've never noticed it to be any kind of problem.

Awesome. Wet sanding I can do...no problem. Even some of the Meguiar's stuff would probably work. Mine aren't too bad. The passenger side lense is not even half covered and the driver side isn't even that bad...so I'll try the simpler Meguiar's route and go from there. Thanks, man!!

Re: Spec-V Newb...

I have a few new questions:

There are a pair of monster RCA cables right at the base of my center console in the back seat of my car. Are these stock? Where do they go?

What is supposed to go in the gap under the AC controls above the ash tray? There's just a hole in my car.

I do believe I blew my passenger door speaker...anyone have a replacement?

These cars came with 9 speaker systems, right? I've read that a few places. I can only count 7 of them...where are they all?

Any help appreciated! Thanks, guys.

Re: Spec-V Newb...

you might be able to use a high grit wax to pull the haze on the lights off just rub kindof hard....also the butterflys are in the middle of the intake its really easy to pull off.

Re: Spec-V Newb...

Step by step instructions. Moving very slow, it should only take you a half hour - forty five minutes. I suggest ordering new gasket for your intake manifold. Pick some up at a local nissan dealership. I didn't know about that, and I just re-used mine. I'm pretty sure it's fine, but just get new gasket to be safe. I think that is an 04+ sentra, so there if there is something on that car, that isn't on yours, don't worry.

Much luck.
