Cool Instrument Cluster/dash lights out.

Hello everyone, I am new here and was hoping for some advise. I have a 2003 Monte Carlo Ls. I've been reading some posts here regarding the BCM and not to buy a used one etc etc. I.e the dealership has to reprogram it. three days ago, my instrument cluster lights went out including the radio back ligthting/temperature controls etc. The only lights in the dash that light up are the milage, clock, Emergency brake indicater and the traction control light. All others are dead. I spent the day "before going to work" ripping apart the dash after checking every fuse in the car. All fuses are 100% and not popped. I"ve spoken to GM and they said just to get the car diagnosed is 70.00$ Canadian "as I live in Toronto" then it could be the BCM Module.

Has anyone had this problem? I am assuming so since I read that the BCM's are total garbage and dont last long, GM wants $320.00 for a new one if thats what it is. Has anybody had this exact or very similar problem? I've check various wires in the dash "as much as I could do" and nothing looks damaged/burnt etc. I am now wondering if it may be the BCM or the daylight running sensor on the top...or something else.

Any advice? Can our family mechanic re-program it? Or as i've read is it something GM is hosing people for?? If anybody has had the similar problem and or knows how to fix it or what it may in fact possibly be...please write me. I wanna head to the cottage on monday. [email protected] ALSO, before I forget, it seems that the clock/stereo and milage/gear goes very dim and hard to read.

HELP! I wish newer cars were as easy to fix as older cars.

Re: Instrument Cluster/dash lights out.

My son's 2001 Monte had the dash lights and console lights go out on him. It was his light switch. He had a dealership replace it but I don't remember how much they charged. Good luck.

I agree with dennisinmo, that the multifunction switch is your issue. here's a link to a picture on AC-Delco's website.

The contacts get weak and will start randomly dropping functions/lighting.
