Just a few questions, thank you.

Hello everyone,
New to the boards, and really new to the street racing community, used to driving caddy's dropped etc.. .

I purchased a 2002 civic ex 5speed, the only mod I have done is put in the exhaust straight pipe from headers.

My few questions are simple I believe and any help in that field would be great.

1. I want to purchase my intake this week, I was wondering what would you purchase for the 2002 civic? CAI, or Short ram? I have read all the topics on intakes, just have heard from friends that the 2002 civic has some kind of feature that makes CAI like a drag for that car, I know that may sound weird but any clarification would be great. So question is which way would you go?

2. is AEM best way to go?

3. and most website stores dont list 2002civic ex, what the latest year intake that is listed (2001?) I could use that would work the same on my car?(what i mean is that if i could buy a intake ment for a 2001 for example and be the same for me)\

4. and last question is whats one of the best online dealers

Any help will be greatly appreciated, thank you for your time.

Thank You,
GRiM

my opinions on intakes its just a pipe. the only think i find is diffrent is the filters. from what ive heard from everyone aem filters are the best. i dont think they use 3 inch piping though. my intake is 3 inch. but hey spend what you like..

hey man is it true what they say about you.. are you grim, when you ridE?

I got a full length cold air intake from my local shop that does import performance. Its an off brand Nakayama. But it fit well and sits the filter in the lower fender/bumper. It didn't come with a bypass for water so I'm running the short part till I get one. The point is I only paid $70 for the whole kit. The kit came with everything I needed. I got it at Tri-town audio and imports. The phone is 1-860-870-0093 talk to Dave he will hook you up. Tell him Dave Callahan sent you. I couldn't see paying all the money for a AEM intake when really my civic will never be fast. In the end its just a civic. I just want it fun to drive. If I want fast I get out the 2002 GSXR1000, NOW THATS FAST!!!

Welcome to AF

I have the exact same car as you. I just ordered my AEM Cold Air Intake and the AEM Air Bypass valve.

A lot of the online websites have the '01 Civic listed. They just haven't updated it to read '01-'02 Civic. Yes the 01 is exactly the same as the 02. So the parts will work.

The CAI will make your car a bit more loud. AEM is the best in the business.

A Cold Air Intake provides more power than a RAM Air intake. But it is more difficult to install.

If you are getting the cold air intake, i suggested getting the bypass valve too. Cause if water gets sucked up that intake. So goodbye to your engine.

Fiber Images Body Parts

These are the best sites that I have found.

the bypass valve restricts air to the point where you will see NO gain in power...yeah that's right ZERO. But that's not a big deal when you consider that the most you'll receive from your intake is about 1-3HP max at any point across the RPM band. The sound is great, but that's all you're paying for.

And have you had one installed on your car? Or are you just talking out your ass because of what others have told you. It doesn't restrict air flow. There is nothing stopping air from going through, it's hollow like the pipe. But if water gets in there, it will fall into the bypass because of its weight and not go into the throttle body.

I just put my intake on yesterday and it kicks. I get better high-end power.

So when you actually experience something that you are going to try to be an expert on, then you can come to the table with the big boys.

3 HP is enough to feel a difference. People take out their backseat when racing to lose 10-15 lbs, which won't even make enough of a difference to equal 1 hp. But 3 hp, that's a good amount that you can actually feel. And it will only give you 3 hp on a stock motor, but if he gets some other engine mods, then the cai will make more of a difference and all the mods will work together as one making each product produce more power than it would by itself.

Are you planning on putting on a Bypass Valve? That requires cutting of the pipe.....no biggy though.

I am technically challenge. Basically I suck when it comes to working on my car myslef. I'm always afraid i'll break something. But my friend and I decided to brave through this one on our own.

I was easy. Took us 2 hours to do the intake and the bypass valve.

It's really easy. Nothing to worry about.

Best Cold Air Intake install directions ever
