Fan Switch aftermarket mod Q

I'm getting ready to R&R the engine in my 98 GTP. I bought the car with quite a few mods. It was once a ralley racer in Nevada. Below is a mod to the wiring that leads to the fans. When the ignition switch is turned to the run position, both fans turn on. My question is, what am I looking at? Who ever did the mod wired it with the cheesy wire splices as you can observe. Another question comes to mind, how should the fans be wired?

Re: Fan Switch aftermarket mod Q

You are looking at a simple magnetic switch that when voltage is applied it closes the circuit and turns the fan on. The fans on a non-modified system are wired to come on when the PCM reads an increase in temperature above the set limit. As for how the fans should be wired you should be able to put them back to stock by simply reconnecting the colored wires. This should return the function to the PCM.

Re: Fan Switch aftermarket mod Q

Thanks for the feedback. I've got the wiring diagrams and am going to return control of the fans to the PCM.
