What are the odds?
I am looking at a Jeep Cherokee 00 and 01. They are all around the 100k milage mark. As luck would have it, the dealer I am using to find one, had two on his lot, both 00's and the dash went out for the OD. He replaced the first one with a used one and of course had to explain the Odometer difference on the Title.
He just picked up a second one, and it did the same thing on that one with about the same milage. Is this common? And what would it cost to fix if I encounterd this problem after I bought the vehicle? |

Re: What are the odds?
Huum...are you going to do mods on this Jeep?
The 00 and 01 have a low pinion differential in the front. Verses a high pinion in the earlier years. Huh...you say...just seach for topics on this. |

Re: What are the odds?
Yep..any 01 would be a steal. Last MY made.
I bought one for my daughter for that reason. I got it with 60K...2 yrs. ago. To answer your question, no dash problems. Other problems are common to the Jeep XJ. Beware...this is no Toyota. |

Re: What are the odds?
When they start playing with the OD, i think they are up to something. they can change it to the correct mi. I would not trust them. thats what i think.

Re: What are the odds?
I agree, there are many of these rigs to be found. A lot of them have never been abused, and the 4.0 I6 and drive train will last a LONG time (2-300K++!!) with decent maintenance. Keep looking friend.

Re: What are the odds?
Very true. The jeep is like a person, every once in a while it will break down.

Re: What are the odds?
Since my last post, it rained. I turned on the wipers and noticed part of the windshiedl directly in front of the driver's seat was not completely clearing. So I brushed the windshield on the inside with my hand and sure enough, the moisture was on the inside of the windshield. So I am thinking maybe moisture dripping down the windshield inside the jeep may have gotten in the dash and caused a short. Seems to make sense, but maybe still a longshot.
I did take the vehicle right to a local glass company. The guy there sprayed the moisture out of the plastic liner around the window to get it dry. He then placed a thin bead of silicone between the roof and the plastic strip. That stopped the leak. I was quite surprised how easy it was to completely peel back that plastic strip. So the next chance I get, I am going to put a silicone bead around the entire windshield. Thanks for your reponses. It is my first jeep and I love driving it. Should have bought one long ago. Bimmers are fun to drive, but lots of $. The run flats killed it for me. I will never own another as long as they are OEM.

Re: What are the odds?
Have the windshield shop do it....they use urethane, which is curable by water to seal the the glass gasket.
You can do it too if you get the stuff Edit: So.... you did buy that Cherokee? |

Re: What are the odds?
I ended up taking it back to the glass shop to reseal the whole windshield. I will find out if it takes the next carwash or rainstorm, which ever comes first.
