Cool Pinging/Clanking

I have a 1997 Ford Police Interceptor. The engine runs and sounds great, until you floor it. Under heavy acceleration I can hear a pinging/clanking in the engine. Once I get to crusing speed, it sounds fine. Any ideas as to what is causing this? Thanks!

Re: Pinging/Clanking

Very common with the police cars .. I know for sure... You can try and add an octane booster or use a higher grade of gas and see what happens...

Or with gas at almost 3 bucks a gallon be easy on the pedal... just kidding

Good luck

Change the oil and clean the MAF.
