Re: STi or evo X
I voted for the Evo X because the pictures so far have led me to believe that the Subaru's styling has been ruined, and with the new awd system Mitsu has developed it sould be awesome in the bends, *BUT* if you want more power than handling, the GT500 is by far the way to go, easily the cheapest way to get 500hp, (and rumors have a GT500KR coming out with ~540hp) the handling won't be near what the Evo X or STi will be but the STi and Evo X will never match the Power Band of the GT500, it will always be far more driver friendly, big V8's and superchargers tend to do that, so it depends if you like straight roads or the bends, keep us updated man, and good luck

Drive them all and see which you like best. Every one else's opinion is based on their own preferences.

Re: STi or evo X
i've been leaning toward the STI or EVO cause i live in nj and there isn't to many wide open areas to realy make the GT500 do what it is built to do, get on the open road and floor it. where as with the evo or STI you can get through traffic a loot faster cause you can simply fit in smaller gaps. i also here the new EVO isn't as boost friendly and the EVO lX. and i don't like the new styling of the new STI but it will proably grow on me.

Re: STi or evo X
anyone know the differences in stock boost psi and safe max boost for the stock Sti's and EVO's?
i'm trying to compare the potential to make more power with minimal mods between the two. I've heard rumors that the EVO's are around 20 psi and max is at 23 psi, and the Sti is 13.5 psi and max is at 16 or 17 psi. is that close to accurate? Also what size turbos do each have? |

Re: STi or evo X
I'd vote for the Evo right now. The hatchback STi makes me want to barf.

Re: STi or evo X
If you understand the origins of the Impreza's design, you will understand why Subaru is following the hatch route.

Re: STi or evo X
oh okay i didn't know that...i used to have an 02 WRX, and learned quite a few things about it, but didn't know that fact...its still ugly. then again, its not like the suby is all that "beautiful" of a car to begin with.
when was it a hatch? any pics of those years? |

Re: STi or evo X
I am not going to write a historical dissertation for you, but I will explain why Subaru is heading down the hatch route.
The Impreza was designed to follow the Legacy in what was then Group A of the WRC, in 1997 Group A became the WRC Car class and the Impreza was redesigned to the coupe to take advantage of the new class rules. 2001 saw the first major redesign of the Impreza after the coupe and we got the bugeye version. Initially the bugeye was competitive in the WRC but for some reason Subaru redesigned it for 'aerodynamic' reasons. Same again happened in 2006. Since then, sedans have been less and less successful in the WRC, European hatchbacks have begun being the car to beat due to weight distribution and balance. In a straight line the Impreza is competitive, the hatchbacks are killing Subaru on the winding European courses though. In an effort to catch up, Subaru have redesigned the Impreza as a hatch with the STI being a true hatchback - this has a lot to do with meeting FIA rule requirements for production numbers (also why not everywhere gets the STI with a 2.5L - FIA rules require the production version be available with a 2.0l). The hatchback has been designed to be a competive handling car - expect the STI hatch to handle better than its predecessor in the sedan format.

Re: STi or evo X
I don't understand why people are masturbating about 08 STI and Evo X. We have seen some pics of WRX, but have no idea about the new STI in terms of its looks and performance.
It's a waste of time talking about it until we see them and someone reviewes them and when we have a good idea of what they are going to look/drive/handle like. Besides, why are you briging up a GT500 in this poll?? WTF, it's not even in the same genre...why don't you throw in a Honda CBR and Hummer H2 while you are at it, moron. |
