Cummins Diesel, Injector cleaning

I have heard about using transmission fluid to clean the injectors by pouring it into the fuel filter when changing it. And to pour some in the tank to clean as well. Will this void warranty or damage the engine? Just want to know for sure before I trash the injector pump or something else.

I have been told to leave the unknown result additives out my diesel fuel.
Sounds to me like it will create additional heat when burning and harm the
injectors. Why do you think they need cleaning. I have 125,ooo on my 96
cummins and never had to clean the injectors. Always run a commerical fuel
additive that is supposed to have an antigel agent in it for winter operation.
Once you gel in cold weather and have walk you will keep antigel in your
fuel.

Re: Cummins Diesel, Injector cleaning

Dont use tranny fluid in your fuel. Years ago truckers used to do that but the newer injector pumps and electronic senscers have tighter tollerances. Also the fluid has more additives in it which wont burn completely and stick to the piston tops and valve heads. Check with your local automotive store or a Cummins shop for fuel additives if you think you need one. I have a 2nd generation 12valve Cummins and only use some anti gel in the winter. Also add a quart of two cycle oil to each tankful for a little better lubrication.Other than that you should not worry about the injectors getting dirty. Just take it out once in a while and work it hard. That will keep it clean.....
