Talking New to the fourm, ABS Module Location 2005 Malibu

Hello all,

I just found this place and thought WOW a cool site to go to for support for my car.

I have a 2005 Malibu LS V6 with 44,500 miles, and my ABS light will come on when it's either cold, or humid. (I live in South Carolina). I've followed the owners manual, about turning off the car, letting it sit, and starting it again. Sometimes the light will go out, or it will stay on.

Well I took it to the local dealership, and from what they say it's an internal short in the ABS module. Okay, so I ask how much to repair it.. GASP it was a lot! just for a module and labor, was like 500.00 bucks!

So I look on eBay and find a module for 40 bucks, and thought.. Hey I can do this myself. I've worked on cars before. (replaced brakes, plugs and wires, oil changes) on my wife's car (1997 Ford Contour) and a 2001 Ford Focus that is now gone.

But my question is.. where is the ABS module located on the car? I don't have a Haynes manual or anything else like that, but I thought I'd come on here and ask.

Is it attached to the braking system near the firewall, with the 4 brake lines coming out of it? (I think that's the master cylinder, right?)

Any help would be appreciated!

-Marshall

I am not sure how to tell what body style I have.

if it helps, it's a 4 door, the trunk is sort of blockish?

here is a link to exactly what my Malibu looks like. Minus the spoiler.

Ahh... Ok.. You have what is called the "epsilon" body, or "Z-Body" malibu. It shares its platform with the Saab 9-3 and Opel/Holden Vectra. Malibu Maxx's use the extended version of this platform.

Now the part you are inquiring about My Malibu doesnt have ABS, so hopefully someone will double check this for me, I do Beleve the module is located to the left or right of the master cylender, and is attached to it. You'll notice it as its wiring harness will be a dead giveaway.. Ive never seen an abs module die before, but there is a first for everything. Now if you were talking about a power steering issue, well.. thats common..

Also when the part comes in, you'll be able to compare it with the old one..

Good luck and let us know how it goes!

Your best bet is have the dealer do it if you are going to fix it. That Ebay stuff can stick you bad. From what I know you will need it set up with a tech 2 anyways.
