'01 1500 Kills When Shifting Into Gear
2001, Ram 1500SLT, 5.9L. This has been going on for some time, and only sporadically. When I start up and shift into gear it dies every now and then. Any ideas what might be causing this? Related to the IAC valve I need to replace? Thanks for any info!

Re: '01 1500 Kills When Shifting Into Gear
No amp, and nothing that would draw extra power to my knowledge. It has done it both warmed up and cold, I'll throw it into reverse and it dies. Maybe 5-10% of my starts, not much, but I wonder if it may be something that's going to get worse?

Might try throwing a different battery in it, if you have another good one lying around. When the battery gets low, or failing, in some dodges it will kill.

Thanks for the info, I'll keep my eye on the battery. It's one with the "green eye" and looks fine to me. This stalling has been going on for over a year now as well, would have thought if it was a dying battery it would have gone by now?

Re: '01 1500 Kills When Shifting Into Gear
Could try removing the Iac, and cleaning the plunger, and dumping some seafoam through the throttle body. You can also shoot it through the pcv valve hose in the intake. It will throw some smoke, but it will also smooth out the idle, if it is related to carbon build up.
When you take out the IAC, make sure you clean the throttle body hole where the IAC goes. Could be that the IAC or port is clogged up. Good Luck |

Re: '01 1500 Kills When Shifting Into Gear
I have diagnosed an idling issue I've been having for a while now to the IAC, so maybe all this is related. I'm scheduled to have a throttle body cleaning this week, if that doesn't solve the issues I'll replace the IAC. Thanks for all the help.
