problem with engine cutting out

Hi new to this sight think I screwd up already writing a post srry if i did. Got a 96 gst 2.0 Brought used 6 months ago. been running fairly good. It just started to cut out at higher speeds above 60 or if I get on it at lower speeds. I have changed plugs, wires and fuel filter. No codes at this time. Compression is 180, 178, 178, 180. I am thinking fuel filter but. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Re: problem with engine cutting out

Thanks for posting one in the correct subforum, but if you have already posted one previously, there's no need to make another one. Just edit your last one and say that you didn't realize you made the mistake, and a mod should gladly move it for you.

Re: problem with engine cutting out

Compression looks good. What exactly do you mean by "cuts out". Is it a sputter, or does it feel like you are hitting a brick wall?

Re: problem with engine cutting out

I HAVE 95 MIT ECLIPSE WHILE DRIVING CAR WAS STALLING, SOMETIME,AT LIGHT OR ON THE ROAD STARTED TO GET WORST. I REPLACE THE ECU UNDER HOOD,WENT TO DODGE DEALER AND PUT A R IN FRONT OF NUMBER STAMPED ON OLD ECU. THIS IS A REMA PART FOR ABOUT 185.00 . WHEN I WENT TO THE MITS DEALER THEY ONLY HAD USED FOR 500.00 .GO TO DODGE DEALER WITH MUNBER ON OLD PART AND PUT A R IN FRONT . MY CAR IS NOW RUNNING PETTY GOOD

Re: problem with engine cutting out

Trap95, please type in complete and coherent sentences so we can understand you better. I don't know what you mean by putting an "r" in front of it, but if you go to a strictly Dodge dealer, they will not know what you're talking about. You need to go to a Chrysler dealer because Eagle is a division of Chrylser, not Dodge.

Also I think his problem is not random shutdown, as he said it only does it at higher speeds and not just at any random time.

Re: problem with engine cutting out

Your timing is normal. Under a light cruise, I'll see anything from 22 degrees up to 35 degrees depending on how much throttle I'm giving her.

What plugs did you use and what gap did you set them at? Also, have you done a leak check?

Re: problem with engine cutting out

I brought what everyone suggested ngk---7 plug. gap at .028. Going to do a leak test this weekend. Trying to find the exact way to do it. do you remove cold intake, seal and pressurize turbo intake too about 20psi. Doesn't the air escape thru valves?

http://www.vfaq.com/mods/ICtester.html

It shouldn't be able to get past the throttle plate so no, it wouldn't be escaping through the valves.

Definately, it happens all the time. The best place to have the motor is at 30 degrees ATDC to prevent valve overlap.
