Looking for a Good Low Sounding Muffler For 2000 Grand Am GT

Hey guys. I now have a DynoMax Ultra flow muffler on my 3.4L Grand AM.
I might be too picky, but it ain't loud enough for me.

I'm looking for a good muffler that will have a good sound and be loud.
I don't want my car to sound like a weed-eater though.

What about glass packs? Yes, No??

God Bless

Welcome to AF.

Do you have the rest of your exhaust replaced ?

I have the Flo master 80 series #42583 on both my GA's.
They are loud !
And IMO sound better then the 5 others I've tried out.

btw glasspacks are so 70's

Re: Looking for a Good Low Sounding Muffler For 2000 Grand Am GT

here's a couple pics of my GT's exhaust work I did recently.
I only removed the resonator and replaced the stock muffler.
Soon it'll be 2.5" from the Cat back= Louder.

The only thing I have done to my exhaust, is take it to a guy, he took off the 'extra muffler' that he told me that was on there. the CAT converter is still there, and then the guy put the Dynomax Ultra Flow on it.

I was actually thinkin about doing flowmaster first, and then a friend told me to put the Dunomax on there. So what youre sayin is that flowmaster would be a good loud sound with my 3.4L V6?

That extra part he took of was the resonator.
I call it the restrictor...
Next to Borla(@$850+shipping) they are the loudest .

To get louder would be to run 2.5 from the Cat back and 2.5 dual outs.
Of coarse headers & a high flo Cat with this, thats ticket loud !

Me SE's exhaust is loud....
so loud I cant hear the radio/CD player full blast,
and it can be droning on long highway runs ....
You'll get a lot of "what!?"

heyy....

i typed in "grand am flowmaster" in ebay and it brot up the muffler.
it only has two holes (in/out), but it don't say that it goes on a 2000 grand am gt. it only goes up to '96. but the dynomax muffler i have only has two holes. soo will this muffler still work for my 2000 grand am gt?

That one might work but you'd only have a sigle out, not duals.
Here is the one I have....

ok. how much would that affect the sound? or would it affect it at all.
cuz i have a single right now. so im guessin it will be easy to replace the one i have now. i just dont know anything about mufflers lol. would it really affect the loud, low sound that im lookin for?

Re: Looking for a Good Low Sounding Muffler For 2000 Grand Am GT

if you get the flowmaster #42583 like xero and I have, you will TOTALLY be satisfied. I actually have some clips of what mine sounds like on youtube (my camera was really close to them so it might seem a little distorted). In my opinion, flowmaster is the best sound. I had my resonator hacked off too and it sounds GREAT! get the 42583 (which is a dual 2.5" out... dual exhaust is wayyyy cooler than single!), and get some stainless steel dual tips. you will be TOTALLY happy

that's awesome..
since im limited on money, would it be a dumb idea to save some cash by just replacing my dynomax with the flowmaster 40? it will save me money cuz i wont need new piping or any exhaust tips. i would love for my car to sound like yours. but in your opinion, would it still be a good low sound with the flowmaster 40 single?

Re: Looking for a Good Low Sounding Muffler For 2000 Grand Am GT

I have a similar question.
I have a 4cyl 2000 GA SE with dual exhausts on the driver side. It came stock just like every other GA out there. Now, to replace it with a good low sounding muffler like XI's (1 pipe out on each side of the car) would that be possible? if so, how much are we talking?
