2000 3.8L MAF sensor bad?
Need help on this one. My check engine light has been on several times over the past couple of months. Bought a code reader and I am getting the code for p0102- MAF sensor low frequency or something like that. Anyways took it to the mechanic who put a new connector onto the MAF sensor and said that that was the problem. A day later the light came on with the same symptoms. So back to the mechanic. Ended up that the connector was not making good contact with the sensor so i told him that i would put a new sensor in myself. after installing the new maf sensor the car was fine for about a month then the light comes back on with the code again. so i figured it was the same thing so i took the connector off and bent the 3 pins on the sensor to make better contact. this fixed the problem intermittently. yesterday i went to gm and bought another new 3 pin connector for the sensor because the one the mechanic put on looked like on of the pins on the sensor wasnt making contact with one of the holes on the connector. after putting the new connector in, i know that i have good contact with the sensor yet the light is still on. could it be the new sensor has gone bad only after one month. The car's engine will "surge" when you let off the gas while driving. (usually will go down to idle speed then up to like 1500rpms giving you a slight surge when you let of the gas". intially i thought i may be a vacum leak after i replaced the plenum gasket but i cant find any leaks. Any thoughts or advice is greatlly appreciated on this one. Thanks!

Welcome to AF. Did you have the pcv out or replace it, if so make sure both o rings are in place, this can be caused by air entering the engine unmetered.

i think the sensor is probably bad again. i cheaped out and bought the refurbished one. i was just wonderin if anyone else has had the same problem with their's. i figured there must be a reason why it keeps failing. the pcv has the o rings on it. thanks for the help.

I'm having kind of the same thing going on. For the past couple of weeks the car has been surging at high speeds when letting off the gas. Well the last couple of days my car started doing it at any speed. Today the engine light finally came on so I could test it and came up with the same code of P0102.
The guy that tested it said it sounds like a vacuum leak because it has a sucking sound coming from the tube that connects the Air filter to the engine. We took off the Air filter, and the tube, that holds the O2 sensor, and still get the vacuum sound come from what looks like the sensor that is by the carb. I'm not sure what the sound is coming from but I know it still makes the noise for about 5 sec's after you shut the car off? We do not see any where, where there would be a leak in any of the lines. Could that sound be the Mapping sensor? While I have it apart is there anything I should be looking for/replacing, before putting it back together? sorry for High Jacking your thread, but your situations sound close to mine and help me explain it thanks.
