Weird Problem Starting Car
I have a 98 Grand Prix GTP. It's got about 160k miles on it, but the engine has no problems whatsoever. That is, once I get it started. It's really odd because it almost seems the car is just deciding not to start (it's alive). When I put the key in, it either starts right up with no hesitation - or - it doesn't even click. I dont know if its the starter or the ignition switch, or some other unknown issue. It doesn't seem to be weather correlated, as yesterday it was beautiful and wouldn't start. However, this morning it started right up. I have no idea what is causing this, but maybe if you have some insight it would help! I just want to be able to start the thing and not have to worry about being stranded in a parking lot.

Re: Weird Problem Starting Car
I'd check the usual suspects like battery, battery terminals, cables to starter and main fuse box to start. You could have an ignition switch problem but some basic troubleshooting may get you in the right direction. Get the alternator/charging circuits tested.
For a starter problem, check starter check 12 volts at the B+ terminal which is there at all times regardless of going to start and the "S" terminal of the starter solenoid - purple wire which is there only at ignition to start.
