Guess what I did this morning?

Well I got up at 5:30am, jumped in the Civic and headed out to Pukekohe.
Got there just after 6, and left the Civic at the car dealer from works house.
Jumped in his '73 XJ12 Jag and headed off to Tauranga.
Fuck that thing can move! it might weigh nearly 2 tons, but the damn V12 just slings it down the road like it weighs 200grams. Seriusly one of the fastest 4 dr cars I have ever been in.

We got to Tauranga at about 8am, and went and talked someone out of thier lovely car, so that we could sell it on thier behalf.

The dealer got back in the Jag, and I drove one bright red 1988 LOTUS ESPRIT TURBO back to Auckland. :ylsuper :ylsuper :sun: :sun: :sun: :sun: :sun:

Oh damn what a nice car! It passed anything and everything on the road as if it was standing still. I had some guy in a GT legacy try and follow me past a truck, and I just left him so far behind he might as well have been walking.
And the best thing is how easy to drive it was. The 2hr drive back went very quickly, and I was not even the lest bit sore afterwards, or even remotely fatigued. It was quite in the cabin, it didnt bounce all over the road, there was nothing lose and rattling anywhere, but when you put your foot down there was just turbo spooling boost, a blow off valve when you changed gear, and the most preciese steering of anything I have ever driven, not to mention road holding I could not come close to exploring the limits of.

I just wish a: It was my car so I could have really driven it hard
b: the road all the way back to Auckland was closed.

But it taught me one very important thing. At the end of the day its just a car.
Alibet one I would love to do a lot of cross country travel in! :sun: :sun:

I never let you in my G20

Okay, sorry to ruin your thread. It's 4am, and in only 4 more hours I'll be up 24 hours straight... I'm sleepy. I promise I'll post nice stuff tomorrow when I"m not propping my head against my computer

And after all that, you had to hop back in a Civic j/k

I nearly bought a Series 3 XJ12 Vanden Plas this summer, I had the opportunity to get it for $2500 Canadian, bring it up here and easily sell it for $6000-7000. However, only hours away from getting it, some dirty guy with a mullet came in and offered more that I wanted to pay for it. I'm probly better off without it, but I was mad that day!

I did drive it plenty though...0-60 was quick, but nothing incredible....140-200 kph (85-120 mph) is what's really impressive...it was still booting it at 200 too, I just backed off because it wasn't my car :finger: Apparently top speed on it is about 250 kph (150 mph). You can watch the gas gauge drop at that speed though! The car had dual tanks, each was like 80 liters...and you're lucky if both of those tanks last you a week The car had a trip computer, cruising along at 40 mph it said 13 mpg . I floored it and it dropped to 3 mpg

Beautiful car though. BTW, a post-Stevens redesign Esprit is one of my dream cars...I quite literally plan on getting one after graduation from college....maybe an 1989 SE Turbo or something...we'll see

I got a hell of a shock when I did to!
I put my foot on the clutch and thought I had broken the cable, then I had a hell of a time trying to find gears again.
The two cars are only a year apart in production dates, and the Civic has far more options, is 10 times more reliable, and costs signifacantly less to buy and run. And when it comes to driving around a crowed city is a signifacntly better car than the lotus. (if you want a city Lotus you get an Elise, or an Excell or something). But when it comes to swollowing large chunks of countryside the Lotus was so far ahead of the Civic it might as well be a push bike.

I hate it when "practicality" comes into play

C'mon an Elise isn't a city Lotus- it's too compromised- despitte it's easel of driving)- I reckon though- if you can handle the jandle- the Esprit is a better city car
