Acceleration Problems. Sunfire.

A couple of weeks ago, I was driving down the highway and we were hitting 7-8k rpm at 130-140 km/h. Even now, it feels as though I'm lacking a little power in the little guy. It's a 1999 Pontiac Sunfire Sedan. 120km on it. I know it may be like apples and oranges but I find that my dad's 1999 Buick Century custom does the job with less noise and smoother. What could be wrong?

BTW, it's an Automatic.
