Talking Convertible TT Conversion Starts Friday!!!

My clip from Z1 arrives on friday, and I'm hoping everything on it is in good working order. That will officially mark the beginning of this project. I just hope it goes as smoothly as my last swap.... wish me luck fellas..... thanks. I will be posting pics as soon as I start pulling the clip apart.

Re: Convertible TT Conversion Starts Friday!!!

How many miles does the clip have on it? I'm sure it is a nice clip as it is from Z1.

Sean said it has between 40 and 60k..... I trust that is at least somewhat accurate. Have any of you used the "Conzult" diagnostics tool and software they have on Z1. Is there anything cheaper I can use to tune my car with my laptop?

Re: Convertible TT Conversion Starts Friday!!!

I don't have ConZult, I have a Blazt cable/Datascan but it's pretty much the same thing. It's great for setting the idle, clearing trouble codes and other such diagnostic and repair work. Neither it nor ConZult is a tuning tool however. With either of them you can access and modify fuel and ignition maps but you can't write to the chip so whatever changes you make are temporary. To tune the car you'll need something like an Apexi SAFC (cheap, easy but is limited in what it can do) or a Zemulator (more expensive but quite a bit more versatile) or step up to the big leagues and get an AEM EMS (total stand alone ECU that runs around $1800). There is a variety of stuff that fits in between those options.

What are you planning to do with the car?

well I posted a parts list on another thread, but I am probably going to build a mild drag/track/drift/show car. It will not be the best of all of them, but it will be good at all of them. I don't want to have to take it to a shop to have it tuned every time I upgrade it. I want to put new turbos on it in about 6 months, and i will probably have to have it tuned again to get the most out of the upgrade. who knows we'll just have to wait and see till I finish this swap. by the way..... this is going to be a TON of work. I'll talk to you later....

Re: Convertible TT Conversion Starts Friday!!!

What do you mean by "take it to a shop"? There isn't anything a shop could do that you couldn't if you have the right equipment to tune and there isn't anything anyone can do if you don't. You're going to have to go to a dyno for each tune as I'm sure you're aware.

Ya, but since I don't have a dyno there are dyno shops around here that charge like $125 for three pulls, and I would rather tune it myself after each pull than have to pay them $100 an hour to do it.

Re: Convertible TT Conversion Starts Friday!!!

you're probably best off finding someone who comes to you and street tunes it.... expensive yes, but you'll get the best tune possible out of it
