Exhaust Manifold Problems

97 F250 5.8L 4x4
I had to replace the exhaust manifold, while doing it i noticed a crack in the "Exhaust air supply manifold tube" i cut it out and fabricated a piece in there and connected it bact together with a compression fitting & bulted up the new manifold... i still here a leak... is there a torque spec for the manifold bolts? and is there a spray that i can use to see where the leak is comming from?
Thanks for any help!!

Re: Exhaust Manifold Problems

did you put the gasket back on?

are you sure it's a leak, and not just gas flowing through the EGR?

it's possible you need a new manifold gasket, the flange is warped or the EGR is leaking somewhere. they best way i've found to look for leaks it to put it in the garage, turn off the lights and use a flashlight while someone revs the engine to see the gas leaking.

EFI engines run richer at startup, so there's often some white exhaust at first, and that's easy to see.

Re: Exhaust Manifold Problems

I did not use a gasket... I was told that its was metal to metal... its just tapping every time you hit the gas

Re: Exhaust Manifold Problems

its machined face to machined face.... thinking about unbolting it and putting in a gasket... do you know if there is other reason why i would hear tapping every time i hit the gas? thanks

you always use a gasket. metal to metal or not, you still use a gasket.

i don't know about the tapping. maybe it's not tight enough, but it really could be anything. you need to listen closely and pinpoint exactly where the tapping is coming from.
