anti theft problem 93 Explorer
My 1993 Ford Explorer limited will not start due to a problem with the anti theft system. I was driving when the horn came on without being touched. It was a steady sound unlike the off/on sound made when the alarm is activated. I pulled over, disconnected the horn and continued on with no problems. At the next start up the headlights started flashing but the car did start. Now when I attempt to start the vehicle the lights begin to flash and the horn goes on. I can turn them off with the remote but when turning the key to the start position nothing happens. The key for this old a car does not have a microchip. The rest of the electrical-AC, radio all seem to work. I really don't want to tow it into the dealer. Any ideas out there?

Re: anti theft problem 93 Explorer
This is an aftermarket alarm system I suspect. Remove all of it.

Re: anti theft problem 93 Explorer
Aftermarket car alarms disable the starter via relay. When the alarm is armed it will send a ground to the relay to disable the starter, Find the alarm, most likely under the dash and pull the fuse going to it and see if it starts.
